A Journey Through Sicily’s Native Grapes

Three bottles against Sicilian landscapes: Etna Bianco, Ariddu Grillo and Lapa Nero d’Avola
Three grapes, three landscapes.

A journey through Sicily’s native grapes: Etna Bianco, Grillo and Nero d’Avola.

Three grapes, three quite different corners of the island. Etna Bianco comes off volcanic slopes and tends to be taut and mineral. Grillo belongs to the west, around Marsala, and gives whites with body and a saline edge. Nero d’Avola is the island’s best-known red: darker, rounder, warmer.

Poured next to one another they make the point better than any description does — that “Sicilian wine” is not one flavour but a set of very different places.

Passion, territory, tradition.

This particular journey ran as our Degustazione Marino Abate on Thursday 16 July, at Via Gibilmanna 16, Cefalù.
